PREMIERE of the BBC's TEN PIECES (the project myself and Fiona Bevan were filmed for!)

Myself and Fiona Bevan went to the premiere of the BBC's Ten Pieces on Monday. It was in Vue cimema in Leicester Square. My first premiere actually!

We were very fortunate that the BBC asked to film us for Ten Pieces, its a Nationwide project to encourage young people to get more into classical music. As as you know, we aren't classical musicians, but they also wanted to encourage children to make music in general, and thats where we came in! They filmed a Kal Lavelle & Fiona Bevan 'How To' on how to write a song, with us giving tips etc. It's aimed at 7-11year olds and will be available on the Ten Pieces website very soon!!

"Ten Pieces - The repertoire is introduced by key BBC talent including Blue Peter’s Barney Harwood, Claudia Winkleman from Strictly Come Dancing and BBC Radio 2, Dev from BBC Radio 1, and CBBC’s Dick and Dom. Actors involved from BBC dramas include Dan Starkey from Wizards Vs Aliens and Doctor Who, Sarah Rayson and Leanne Dunstan from CBBC’s The Dumping Ground and Khalil Madovi from 4 O’Clock Club. Renowned music stars Katie B and Laura Mvula also introduce their own favourites among the Ten Pieces, in a magical mix of live action and animation directed by Oliver Symth.

Along with the scheduled content for BBC TV and Radio, there will also be resources available on the BBC Ten Pieces website to help foster creativity using classical music as a catalyst.

These include a selection of inspirational films that show audiences how to use music as inspiration for dance, songwriting, rapping and digital art, featuring the likes of Fazer from NDubz; CBBC’s Strange Hill High animator Ric Leeson; singer-songwriters Fiona Bevan and Kal Lavelle; beatboxer Jason Singh; and musician and composer Arun Ghosh."

FREE SONGWRITING MASTERCLASS! LONDON! 1st Oct

Myself and Fiona Bevan will be running a FREE Songwriting masterclass on Wed 1st Oct in The Servants Jazz Quarters from 4-6pm. It is open to girls and women of any age and all you have to do is email - [email protected] to secure your place!
The reason the masterclass is only open to girls and women, is because in the summer we found out that only 13% of songwriters registered with PRS are women, a shocking statistic!
So with this workshop (and the previous workshops we did on our sell out tour) we want to help encourage and inspire women to become more prominent in music.

It features the fab String Quartet 'Cosmopolitan Quartet'!
I've never played with a string quartet before, so it was a real honour!

While on tour in Europe (this Sept 2014), I had the great privilege to do a live session for UNIT1 TV on Plötzensee Lake in Wedding, Berlin!

I've loved Paper Aeroplanes music for years now, so it give me great pleasure to announce that I will be supporting them on their Irish tour in Nov 2014!!!

I've just been on a double headline tour of EUROPE with my friend Zoe Konez (Big Chill Records)! We hit up the Netherlands, Germany, Austria and Switzerland!
It's great to get out on the road, and share music with people from different countries.
Hopefully we or I will be back touring in Europe in the new year! xxx

SOLD OUT UK TOUR

I've had a really special summer. I spent it with one of my dear friends Fiona Bevan, on a double headline tour, around the UK.
We also did free songwriting master classes for girls and women, before each show (as we learnt that only 13% of song writers registered with PRS (the Performing Rights Royalty body) are women!!) to help inspire and encourage women to get out there, and just do it! :)
Incredibly, most of the tour was SOLD OUT, and for that, we are eternally grateful!
Thank you to the venues for having us, and the people that came, it was a truly magical summer!! xxxx
